A Fresh Coat of Paint + A Relaunch
“The secret of it all, is to write in the gush, the throb, the flood, of the moment – to put things down without deliberation – without worrying about their style – without waiting for a fit time or place. By writing at the instant, the very heartbeat of life is caught.”
― Walt Whitman
I've always loved this quote. I'm a big believer in writing as it happens, making art while in the throes of The Big Feels™
But something I've recently learnt is that there is power in pouring your heart out, in all of it's raw and gooey-est glory, processing the feels and THEN refining and releasing the work after.
And so, my new mantra has become;
Write as you live.
Publish after you've processed.
To wit:
I've been quiet for a minute, writing (and writing and writing) and meditating on the most incredible story.
It's so wild. So ridiculous. So painful. So cosmic. So poetic and so profound.
So goddamned hilarious.
And so f*cking human.
I can't quite believe it.
Truth is stranger (and more painful) than fiction.
Life imitates Art.
And if there's a God, he's got a great sense of humour.
I needed a minute to live this story out.
And in living it out, and writing it out, I realised something.
I’ve got a bit to say.
And it needs to go somewhere.
So I’m bringing back my blog. The thing that started my creative career and went viral. My romantic, moody little space on the internet that helped me find an audience and kept me fed.
I want to return to having a space for my stories - a dedicated place that you, dear reader, can return to again and again, and pour over as needed.
A place you can also share with friends, full of articles and images (like a more heartfelt arty Vogue) that you can bookmark and pass on.
A place for my words and visuals, without a character count (or image compression).
A place for storytelling, creative help, and think-pieces with ideas; everything I've learned about love, art, vulnerability and resilience, that you might find comfort, a lesson or a laugh in.
This blog should feel like your best friend; it's a warm hug on the internet, and a nice reminder that whatever you're going through, you're not alone.
It'll have a lot of my archived stories that you've been missing - things you haven't seen or read in years (I get a tonne of dm's asking about bringing these particular stories back). As well as plenty of new ones, as I document this next exciting chapter of MeOhMy.
